  • Residues of ivermectin in sheep milk products

    Distribution of ivermectin residues from milk products was studied. Ivermectin was given subcutaneously to 30 sheep of dairy breed at a single therapeutical dose of 0.2 mg/kg b.w. Daily milk of all ... animals was combined together on 15 sampling days (1-4 day intervals) up to the 35rd day the drug administration and such collective samples were processed to the following milk products: youghurt from raw and heated milk, fresh and hard cheese (samples were analysed also at the half ripening time), cottage cheese and whey with and witout albumins and globulins. Samples were clened-up with solid phase extraction, precolumn derivatized and measurements were performed with HPLC with fluorescence detetction. Time residue profiles in milk products followed the shape of ivermectin excretion in milk, but there were differences in residue concentrations between milk products on the same pooling day mostly according to the fat and water contents. The highest residue level of ivermectin was found in hard cheese (96.1 uH2B12a/kg). Whey without albumins and globulins was matrix with lowest ivermectin contents (<-0.6 ugH2B1a/kg). Residues fell below the detection limit of the analytical method (average 0.13 ugH2B1a/kg) between the 5th day (whey without albumins and globulins) and the 25th day (all samples of cheese) after the drug administration. From the results it was concluded that milk processing is not a solution in a case of ivermectin application during lactation period, because residues mostly remain.
