  • Glivne okužbe v enoti za intenzivno terapijo otrok
    Grosek, Štefan ...
Number of fungal infections in non-neutropenic and non-transplant sick children in intensive care units in last decade dramatically increase. Among fungi the most prevalent pathogens are Candida ... albicans and non-albicans sp. (C. glabrata, C. parapsilosis and C. krusei). Risk factors are multiple, overuse and prolong treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics, prolong hospitalisation, big surgical repairs, central venous lines, etc. The clinicalsigns and symptoms of fungal infections are not helpful to differentiate between infection and colonisation. Close co-operation among intensivist and microbiologist is a prerequisite for better decision when infection with fungi is suspected.
