Stress has been defined in variety of different ways over the years. We usually say that it is present due to demands and pressures. Nowadays, the most common and generally accepted definition is: ... Stress is an interaction between the situation and the individual. One of the most stressful factors isthe workplace. The workplace is an important source of both demands and pressures which cause stress, and structural and social resources to counteract with stress. Increasingly, the demands on the individual at the workplace reach out into the homes and social lives of employees. That is why it is very important to prevent and manage stress and maintain well-being. Individuals can manage stress with two different approaches, those are organizational and individual. The easiest and most accessible way for managing and preventing stress for individuals are individual approaches. They should aim to change individual skills and resources and help the individual to change its situation. In this paper, the individual approaches for overcoming stress are presented. Individual, or individual as an employee, can take a personal responsibility for reducing his or her stress level. Individual strategies that have proven to be effective are physical activities, meditation, yoga, medical hypnosis, autogenic training, visualization relaxation, cognitive methods, biofeedback relaxation method, emotional freedom technique - EFT, Bowens therapy, massage, aromatherapy, humor and laughter, music therapy, therapy with color, sleep, eating habits etc. In the paper we also presented the results of the empirical research on stress, which was done among employees in Slovenian organizations in 2011. The analysis shows which individual approaches for overcoming stress are most commonly used by Slovenian employees. The highest percentage of them implement physical activity (various forms of sport), followed by healthy food and massage.
