    Tajnikar, Maks ; Pušnik, Ksenja
The authors of the paper analyze the effects of technical and cost efficiency on income position of firms in tourism in Slovenia. The analysis is employed on the industry level and on the level of ... Slovenian economy. The findings show that sector Hotels and restaurants is in subordinate market position as profit rates and gross wage rates in this sector are lower than the average values of the economy. The opposite is income position of two other sectors of tourism: Travel agencies, tour operators and tourist assistance and Sporting and other recreational activities. Those sectors have above average profit rates and gross wage rates with regard to Slovenian economy. If a firm does not have above average profit rates and gross wage rates and is not forced to have below average value of both coefficients it is more frequent that a firm would have below average gross wage rates than below average profit rates regardless in which sector of tourism are operating. Firms in all three analyzed industries which have above average profit rates and gross wage rates are also the most technical efficient firms. On the other hand, firms which have below average value of both analyzed coefficients are also the least technical efficient firms. It is also evident that cost efficiency of firms in all groups of income positions is on average larger than their technical efficiency.
