  • Vpliv kriznih situacij na slovenski turizem = The impact of crisis situations on Slovenian tourism
    Cigale, Dejan, 1965-
The paper deals with crisis situations in tourism, using Slovenia as an example, in the period since the country's independence. The effects of the various negative influencing factors are usually ... very diverse. The paper deals mainly with one aspect, namely the characteristics of tourism as revealed by the data of the accommodation statistics of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. Since the early 1990s, Slovenian tourism has gone through several crises. Already Slovenia's independence was a severe blow to Slovenian tourism, as Slovenia was perceived as a dangerous tourist destination in the eyes of foreign tourists. In addition, the paper also deals with the effects of the global economic and financial crisis after 2008 and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. For Slovenian tourism, too, occasional crisis situations are a fact of life that must be reckoned with. The characteristics of Slovenian tourism during the crises were different each time, but some common features can also be identified. For example, in all cases domestic tourists proved to be more reliable than foreigners, whose visits always decreased more. As a result, the places that are most dependent on tourists and in many cases represent the most famous Slovenian tourist destinations, e.g. Ljubljana, Bled, Postojna, etc. were the most affected. The common feature of all crisis situations was the renewed increase in tourist visits, which indicates the resilience of tourism to the influence of various negative factors. This resilience is also a consequence of the fact that tourism is important from the point of view of quality of life, as it has many positive effects on individuals and society. This was also one of the reasons why a large part of the Slovenian population found the restriction of tourist travel during the Covid-19 pandemic very disturbing.
