In Slovenia training of infants and toddlers has been available since 1998. We have been studying of the exercises on infants and their parents and developing the program. We have studied different ... programs for water activities for infants and have chosen the program that is based FSA program that was developed in 1986 in Germany. With the introduction of the Swimtrainer (a swimming ring), the didactic three-stage-programme for teaching pre-school children swimming and the education of trainers the FSA has been active all over Europe. The Swimtrainer is a special swimming ring where the child is positioned at the front part and the back part is open. The child is secured with a safety belt and cannot slip off. That way the infant is in an optimal horizontal position. We are stimulating the "frog movement". This is the child's natural ability to the 12th moth in the chest-down position. Later, at the age of 3 or 4, they rapidly advance and are able to swim independently. The exercises are professionally conducted and all results are monitored. Until today over 1200 infants and their parents have participated in the courses. Here a great educational stress is placed on the whole family. We are striving for a greater interest in a healthier way of life, in a reasonable use of spare time, in water activities and for a quicker learning of swimming and thus reducing the number of drowned persons.
