This paper describes an analytical approach to determining temperature distribution with the Electromagnetic Field Analysis Tools 2D program (ELEFANT2D) over the cross-sections of tube type ... conductors. The same cross-section can analogically be taken for any multi-layer conductor of different construction designs. Due to the skin effect, the current flows towards the conductor surface, the result being an uneven current and consequently a temperature distribution over the conductor cross-section. An ELFANT 2D is given enabling determination of temperature distribution over thetube type conductor cross-section. The authors have developed, using this program, a computer mathematical model for temperature determination by considering the skin effect in a multi-layer ACSR 490ž65 conductor and opticalcable of the OPGW type. The results show the temperature distribution in individual layers of a simplified ACSR 490ž65 conductor with adiabatic heating at a short-circuit current of 30 kAeff for the duration of 1 s and initial temperature 20°C. The same applies to a simplified and real OPGW cable at a short-circuit current of 15.4 kAeff for a duration of 1 s and initial temperature 27°C.
