    The coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease of the respiratory tract, caused by the novel coronavirus type 2, with fever, cough and fatigue as the most common symptoms. Severe ... forms of the disease can have a diverse clinical presentation. The respiratory tract is affected most commonly, where COVID-19 can present with pneumonia or acute respiratory distress syndrome, followed by complications of the cardiovascular, coagulation and nervous system, or the kidneys. The so called silent hypoxemia also poses a special danger. Patients with the most severe forms of COVID-19 are admitted to the intensive care unit, where they receive mostly supportive therapy. The need for a more reliable prognosis of the course of the disease and, especially, for an effective causative treatment still remains. The authors present the clinical manifestations of COVID-19, the epidemiological data in Slovenia, complications of the disease and factors that affect its outcome, as well as treatment in the intensive care unit.
