  • Medicalization of preschool education : an attempt at an empirical approach

    Recently an empirical research was performed in Slovenia within the framework of International IEA Preprimary Project on random sample of kindergartens and children. Obtained results and employed ... observation instrumentary proved to bevery useful for further investigation of our new preschool and school curricula, although they were primarily intended for comparative studies between countries. They are used as evaluation standard for processing of statistical data in further observations in kindergartens and also in primaryschools. With the present example of empirical evaluation we wanted to test the suitability of the instrumentary for detecting of medicalization in education and its actual extension. Proportionally higher percentage of chosenactivities that are linked with the daily routine within the kindergarten, like care for personal higiene of children, most probably pointsto the phenomenon of the medicalization in education. Therefore kindergarten is disciplining institution of the modern age.
