  • Neinvazivne preiskovalne metode pri kronični venski insuficienci = Noninvasive investigation methods in chronic venous insufficiency
    Videčnik, Viktor
Non-invasive examination in chronic venous insufficiency is a means of establishing which system is primarily affected (the deep or the superficial venous system), if the valves are damaged (valve ... incompetence), and to measurethe effectiveness of the muscle pump. A universal diagnostic test is not available. Of all the examination methods at our disposal, the most appropriate one is colour duplex ultrasonographic venous imaging. Therefore, this method is now replacing x-ray phlebography and vein examination by continuous bi-directional Doppler ultrasound, as well as various plethysmographic methods, direct measurement of venous pressure and volumetricmethods. The paper therefore presents the ultrasonographic method ingreater detail. Its use allows the examination of the patency of the deep venous system and also of the saphenous trunks, but above all it is possible to precisely localise and measure the vein reflux on the lower extremities. Itis suggested that ultrasonographic examination should be performed in all patients with clinically significant chronic venous insufficiency, especially before planned surgery. Other examination methods are mentioned only briefly.
