  • Rezultati zdravljenja akutne naglušnosti v letih 1993-1999 = Sudden deafness: results of treatment from 1993 to 1999
    Spindler, Majda ; Rokavec, Aleš
Sudden deafness is defined as sensorineural hearing loss of unknown etiology that develops over a period of hours or a few days. The severity of hearing loss may vary from mild impairment to total ... loss. The loss may be permanent orhearing may spontaneously return to normal or nearly normal. 175 patients with unilateral idiopathic sudden deafness who visited this clinic one to 30 days after the onset of deafness were studied during the period 1993-1999. Thepatients were treated with an intravenous drip infusion of a corticosteroid, a vasodilator and vitamin B for five days. The majority of them were hospitalised. The relationship between therapy, interval from the onset, age, tinitus, vertigo and prognosis was investigated. No significant difference in prognosis was found between the number of days from the onset ofsudden deafness and the age of patients. Poor initial hearing and vertigo are bad prognostic signs. The prospects for recovery were better if the hearing loss was mild. Our findings are similar to most findings reported in previous papers.
