  • Nevarnosti toplotne obremenitve = Heat related illnesses
    Rozman, Aleš, 1973-
Although most travellers visit places with high external temperatures, severe forms of heat-related illnesses, including heat stroke, are quite rare. Nevertheless, many face symptoms of weakness, ... irritability, headache, as well as heat oedema, dizziness and even heat exhaustion. Runners, soldiers, elderlyand chronically ill persons are more prone to develop heat stroke. The symptoms of high body temperature interfere with the symptoms of dehydration. High body temperature is the result of the imbalance between the production, absorption and dissipation of heat. This could be accompanied with the failureof the temperature control centre. Heat stroke starts at the body core temperatures higher than 40 degrees and is a life-threatening condition. Prompt recognition is crucial and therapy should be started without delay. Thecornerstones of successful treatment are immediate energical cooling and rehydration. Preventive care should be consisted of acclimatisation to hot climate, proper clothing, adequate hydration and adjusting of activities to external weather conditions.
