  • Hematološka in nevrološka bolezen kot verjetni posledici okužbe z virusom HIV = HIV infection with probably secondary manifestation of hematological and neurological disease
Zver, Samo, 1966- ; Preložnik Zupan, Irena, medicina
Background. Mostly hematological diseases are idiopathic in origin. Only rarely secondary cause is possible to identify and in such circumstances we are describing hematologic disease as secondary. ... Beside pretreatment of different cancer diseases with chemotherapy also infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can be underlaying cause for newly formed hematological disease. But because of fortunattely low number of HIV positive persons in Slovenian population, we rarely connect hematological illness with HIV infection. Patients and methods. We have described young male with leukemic form of Burkitt lymphoma, a subtype of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Despite well known link between Burkitt lymphoma and HIV infection we have notdiagnosed HIV infection until unusual neurological symptoms evoluted. Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) was diagnosed, also possible consequence of precedent HIV infection. We have influenced on HIV disease activity with chemotherapy and especially glucocorticosteroids treatment. Conclusions. Briefreview of HIV associated hematological and neurological diseases are added.
