  • Odpornost na protiglivna zdravila = Resistance to antifungals
    Matos, Tadeja ; Beović, Bojana
In the last few decades the rate of fungal infections has increased. The use of antifungal agents became widespread and was followed by the development of resistance. The antifungal susceptibility ... testing remained problematic and unreliable. In the last few years a new method M-27A was developed and startedto be used world-wide. In comparison with older methods the results of M-27A are reproducible and comparable. In studies, published recently, clinical correlation of laboratory breakpoints has been investigated. Susceptibility testing of fungal isolates is recommended for fungi, isolated from sterile specimens and in the eases of therapeutic failure. In spite of great progress in the field of antifungal susceptibility testing, a clinician should be aware of many other factors influencing the outcome of fungal infection besides the in vitro effective antifungal agent. In the review article the mechanisms of antifungal resistance, the method of susceptibility testing, the breakpoints and the clinical impact of the antifungal testing arediscussed in details.
