    Progress in science, changes in society and health problems which peadiatricians nowadays encounter in their work, require from them new knowledge, . skills, experience and clear professional ... standpoints. Professionals within European and world associations have begun intense activities for modernising graduate as well as postgraduate education for doctors. Slovenia is now also engaged in such a process of modernisation in accordance with current professional guidelines. A postgraduate course in health cure for women, children and youth, established in 1957, underwent manymodifications and organisational changes and became a compulsory part of school medicine and peadiatrics. In the process of modernisation during the previous academic year, CESP and UNESP guidelines were considered. In the future the task of the pedagogic board will be mainly to assure the quality ofcourses, to include current issues, provide more skills for students, achieve, flexibility of studying with the introduction of credit points and tointegrate the course into the master's degree programme in the Medical faculty of the University of Ljubljana.
