    Breastfeeding protects against infections in infants. It has an effect on incidence of acute respiratory infections (ARI), gastroenterocolitis (GE)and otitis media (OM). Incressing duration of ... breastfeeding may be associated withstatistically significant reduced incidence of ARI, GE and OM in the frst year of life 427 healthy newborns were followed. They were classified as breastfed for less then one month, breastfed from one to six months and breastfed from seven to twelve months. Percentage and incidence of ARI, GE andotitis media were recorded. They were negatively associated with duration of breastfeeding (p<0,001). Breastfeeding protects against ARI as well as it does against GE and OM.
