  • Posebnosti predpisovanja antibiotikov v Sloveniji v primerjavi z nekaterimi drugimi državami = Some aspects of Slovenian antibiotic prescribing in comparison with some other countries
    Fürst, Jurij
Antibiotics are one of the most prescribed group of drugs. In the 1996-99 period, antibiotic use in Slovenia increased by 34% whereas it was stable in Scandinavian countries. The consumption of ... macrolides and penicillins with beta-lactamase inhibitors (BLI) increased by 80% and quinolones by 50%. It wasonly aher Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia drew up prescribing guidelines for penicillins with BLI and quinolones in 2000, that a consumptiondecrease by 9,4% followed. The structure of prescribed antibiotics needs to be improved as well. Instead of narrow spectrum antibiotics, the broad-spectrum ones are being prescribed. Age-specific comparisons between Slovenia and Sweden show statistically significantdifferences in beta-lactam antibiotics prescribed to children under 75 and in macrolides prescribed to adults over 20. Following therapeutic guidelines, Slovenian doctors could decrease the volume of antibiotics and improve their prescribing habits.
