  • Polimerizacija kompozitov z različnimi viri svetlobe
    Klemenc, Franek
Light polymerisation of composites is a standard procedure which can improve or worsen the quality of an adhesive composite filling. The goal is to achievecomplete polymerisation in the shortest ... possible time with no heat produced. At present, several light curing systems using different light sources are available on the market. Ultraviolet light, used initially for thepolymerisation of composites, has been largely abandoned because of its harmful effects. Halogen lights, which form the standard equipment of any modern dental clinic, have a favourable light spectrum, but use a lot of energy and give off a lot of heat. Consequently, they require a cooling system, which prevents rapid and efficient disinfection. Plasma lights were atfirst thought to provide an ideal light source, but were soon found to have similar shortcomings as halogen lights. Laser lights are still in the experimental phase. They use an argon beam, which achieves high polymerisationrates, but unfortunately also releases a lot of heat. Light emitting diodes (LED), the latest development in this field, seem to provide the best light source at present. LED lights have a long life and produce a low-energy beam of ideal wavelengths. As they require no cooling system, they can be properly disinfected. They are quiet, use little energy and do not havea cable. Their only disadvantage at present is a relatively high price.
