  • Katherine Mansfield in Slovene translations

    During her short life Katherine Mansfield wrote numerous short stories, which place her among the best authors of this genre in world literature. The authorof this paper tries to establish the ... reception of Mansfield's work and her critics' response in Slovenia. First translations of her stories were published in various Slovene magazines and reviews after the Second World War. However, the most complete and artistically succsessful presentation of her work was prepared in 1963 when Jože Udovič published twenty-eight short stories written by this author under the title Katherine Mansfield: The Garden Party. Udovič also contributed the introduction about the author and her work.The book was very well received in Slovenia not only by the reading public, but also by critics, who praised mansfield and Udovič's translation aswell. After that more than twenty years passed, before Katarina Mahnič translated Katherine Mansfield's short story "The Singing Lesson" in 1988. We can conclude that hopefully some new translations of Katherine Mansfield's stories will appear soon.
