    Background. The development of vitreoretinalsurgery and extended knowledge andunderstanding of pathology resulted in better prognosis of complications following a cataract surgery. Visual function ... worsening as a result of complication following cataract extraction can be prevented with vitreoretinalsurgery. it is important to diagnose intra- or postoperative complications of cataract extraction and to act properly. The aim of the article is to present complications of phacoemulsification that can be managedsuccessfully with vitrectomy. Conclusions. Prevention of expulsive haemorrhage in eyes with high risk is extremely important, but when it does happen, the outcome could be better with proper approach. Postoperative endophthalmitis demands and immediate intervention. The only appropriate therapy is intravitreal application of antibiotics. In dislocated lens fragments early vitrectomy is reasonable in prevention of intraocular inflammation, faster rehabilitation and better visual prognosis.
