  • Vloga medicinske sestre v celostni pripravi pacientke na operativni poseg rodil = The role of a nurse in holistic preparing of patients for surgical procedure on reproductive system
Sanchez, Kaja ; Mihelič Zajec, Andreja
The article presents the role of a nurse in preparation of a patient for surgical procedure involving female reproductive organs; the role of a nurse as a performer of nursing care, patients' ... advocate, educator, counselor, motivator of change and last, but not least, as a person providing support andhelp. Different aspects of preparation for surgery are described: psychological, physical and administrative. The results of the inquiry carriedout on 83 female patients who had a reproductive system operation at the Gynecology hospital in Ljubljana revealed that the role of a nurse in preparation of a patient for a surgical procedure is very important. For the patients, holistic preparation which is not always carried out preparation, isvery important. In the frames of psychological, most patients (73%) stressedthe importance of communication, but the lack of intimacy was described as the most disturbing circumstance (69%). Among professional roles of a nurse, the role of a patient's advocate was most often stressed (42%), followed by the role of a teacher and counselor (38%), a person providing support and help (12%) and as the least important role nursing care as described (8%). This opens a new research question: patients understand the role of a nurse as primarily a provider of nursing care and at the same time expect something more form her, something which is hidden inside her other roles.
