    The article discusses the role of family physician in breast cancer screening and follow-up. Family physicians need to educate and encourage their patients towards regular self-assessment of their ... breasts, but they also perform clinical breast examination and refer the patients for mammography screening based on knowledge of the population, known risk factors and guidelines for breast cancer screening. By obtaining the family history of their patients, they can detect those who could benefit from genetic counseling. Follow-up after cancer treatment is provided by oncologists, but family physicians are in charge of the complete medical care and the patient's medico-social problems.
