Background Migraine is a common disorder, with an estimated prevalence of 12% among adults. Migraine is considered a neuological disorder, ni which both vascular and neuronal components play a ... pathophysiological role. Patients and methods In the research a designed quationnaire was answered by the coincidentally chosen family practitioners far the every sixth of successive female patients, as well as the female patients themselves. The data were collected from 162 female patients, who were coming to the general practitioner office between November 2004 and April 2005. The data about migraine treatment, medical visits and sick list were summarized according to the files of family medicine. Results 162 female patients with established migraine diagnosis from 36 general practitioner offices, aged between 18 and 63 years participated the research. 53 of female patients in our pattern meet the criterion for the migraine with aura and 109 for the migraine without aura. 61.4% of the later suffer from tipical migraine's headache. Due to of the headache 64.20% of female patients were incapable of doing housework, 48.15% were badly affected at work, 8.64% were unable to take part in social events and only 1 female patient could not practise her sports activites. The female patients were absent from work collectively 149 working days in the last year, average 6.09 days for each of female patients due to the migraine. 94.4% of female patients consider their working ability to be severely reducedby their headaches. Conclusions Several strategies enhance the quality of the health care and quality of life of the migraine patients: stratified care, aggressive triptan use, prophylactic management. More frequent advice onnonpharmacological measures lead to better control of migraine attacks.
