  • Matične celice iz maščobnega tkiva in njihova uporaba = Stem cells from adipose tissue and their use
    Barlič, Ariana ; Božikov, Krešimir
Subcutaneous adipose tissue represents an attractive source of progenitor cells due to its easy availability, abundance and the ability of self-renewal.It originates from mesodermal cell layer and ... contains stromal-vascular cell fraction (SVF), which can be easily isolated. This heterogeneous population of cells contains endothelial cells, smooth-muscle cells, pericytes, leukocytes, pre-adipocytes, and a population of multipotent mesenchymal stem cells, named adipose-derived stem cells (ASC). ASC have the ability to differentiate into cells of mesodermal origin - adipocytes, osteoblasts, chondrocytes and myocytes. Because of their high proliferative rate and differentiation capability in in vitro conditions, interest for theiruse in medicine is increasing rapidly. Adipogenic potential may have manyuses in soft-tissue reconstruction. Their osteogenic potential could aid repair bone non-union fractures. If successful chondrogenesis could be achieved, ASC could be used to treat cartilage lesions and arthritic joints. According to recent investigations ASC possess immunosuppressive characteristics. Therefore, different autoimmune diseases could be treated. However, despite the initial enthusiasm over their use for clinical purposes, many scientific and medical issues still need to be resolved. In this review we summarize the latest findings about ASC and examples of their clinical use.
