    After the declaration of war, journalists tried to boost the morale of the citizens of the monarchy, who faced the danger of the third front. Thus they revealed their and (presumably) Slovene ... stereotypes about the "Italian traitors". The newspaper Slovenec wrote:"Our time has come now. This is the job for us. You (i.e. Emperor Francis Joseph) saw in your youth the Slovene-Croatian people at the upper-Italian battlefields. Custozza, Novara, Mortara! The fields of graves of Yugoslav blood and glory. There our fathers lay and against the sons the same Italian Wop raised his head."
