Backgraund. Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common endocrinopathy in women, yet its pathogenesis remains enigmatic. The objective diagnostic criterium is ultrasonographic finding, accompanied ... by elevated LH concentration and clinical signs of hyperandrogenemia. Infertile patients with PCO can be treated by drugs: clomiphene-citrate, bromocriptine, corticosteroids, human menopausal gonadotropins, gonadotropin-releasing hormone, gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists or various combinations of the above drugs. Surgical treatment consists of ovarian wedge resection, endoscopic puncture of ovarian cysts, ovarian diathermy and laser vaporization of ovarian capsule. The life-threatening complication of ovaluation induction with gonadotropins is ovarian hyperstimulation that can be successfully avoided by early timed aspiratin of multiple ovarian follicles. The treatment of menstrual disorders consists of prevention of endometrial hyperplasia and of restoration of the menstrual cycle with gestagens or estrogens with antiandrogens. The sings of hyperandrogenization in obese women can be reversed by reducing body weight. Conclusions. The treatment of the patients with PCO is szmptomatic depending on leading clinical symptoms.
