    During the design of thermo- or nuclear power plants on rivers, simu-lations by numerical models are used to forecast the thermal processes which often cause unacceptable thermal pollution. In the ... paper, a three-dimensional numerical model PCFLOW3D is described, especially its module for the simulation of thermal processes. A detailed verification of the model is presented, where measurements in the reservoirs Vrhovo and Blanca were used. Further, the application of the model is described for the forecast of thermalload of the Sava River with the thermal outflow from the Nuclear power plant Krško. At present, the cooling water is discharged directly into the Sava River. However, in the next years a new HEPP Brežice will be built 7 km downstream, and the cooling water will flow into the reservoir. The thermal conditions will be significantly changed. Simulation results showed that the maximum allowed temperature increase of 3 °C would be exceeded in very rare conditions only.
