  • Nekaj lepega za --- domovino ali Domoljubje v ameriškem mladinskem romanu pred 11. septembrom 2001
    Mazi-Leskovar, Darja
The article presents the theme of patriotism in 10 American teenage novels. The particular interest of the author was to analyse the theme in view of the wave of patriotism and solidarity that ... followed the tragic September events. The relationship between home and homeland and national identity was presented according to the findings as presented by A. D. Smith and D. Cosgrowe. With the exception of the Indians, heroes of various races share American national identity and are loyal to the state. However, the criticism towards the policy of the USA is echoed in all novels: either connected with the theme of racism, or with the one of solidarity. Fictional patriotism and solidarity can thus be connected with the present image of the USA. Speculations whether the two themes will gain in importance in the 21st century young adult literature can be accompanied with the wish that young adult novel continue to promote critical thinking and the belief that literature can improve the world, as it is claimed by the Andersen laureate Ana Maria Machado.
