    The purpose of this study was to determine some geometrical parameters of the human hip and pelvis which importantly influence the articular stress in the hip joint. Standard anterior-posterior ... radiographs of hip and pelvis of 79 healthy adult female and 21 healthy adult female and 21 healthy adult male hips and pelvises were measured using a computer-assisted system. Data analysis included descriptive statistical methods. A comparison of geometricalparameters of female and male hips and pelvises showed that women had a smaller femoral head and a wider pelvis than men, which seems to accountfor increased articular stress in the female hip. The results suggest that increased articular stress may be one of the reasons for the greater incidence of hip arthrosis in women. There was no statistically significant difference between the left and the right side of the pelvis as concerns the studied parameters relevant to articular stress.
