    Background. Evaluation of the research efficiency at the Medical Faculty in Ljubljana is important for its general assessment. The evaluation has been based on the quality of scientific papers and on ... their citation. Methods and conclusions. The analysis was carred out by means of the research efficiency evaluation, developed by the Institute of Biomedical Informatics in Ljubljana,and included the period from 1986-96. Scientific papers were evaluated as to the journals which they published in, and congress papers as to the type of the congress where they were presented. The citation analysis was carried out by the SCI database on CD for the period from 1986-96. The results suggest that scientific papers of the Medical Faculty in Ljubljana arenumerous, of high quality, and frequently cited. In other data, particularly on the invested work and means should be included in further analyses.
