    Background. 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, Estasy) is a synthetic derivative, extensively used and misused as a "recreational drug". it causes neurodegeneration of brain serotonin neurons ... in laboratory animals and also inprimates. In huhams there is no direct evidence of such dysfunction, although partly limited and indirect clinical evidence exists. With the spreadof use of Ecstasy the number of reports on acute and chronic psychiatricand nonsychiatric sequalae of its ingestion is increasing. Conclusions. A case of an acute psychotic state, related to the ingestionof Ecstasy tablets in presented, as well as the review of the drug's most common adverse effects that will require a change of attitude towards Ecstasy being a"safe" drug.
