    Background. Citiation of journals in international literature indicates the importance of articles published in these journals for the international exchange of scientific information. None of the ... Slovenian biomedical journals is included in the Science Citation Index (SCI) - Journal Citation Report, therefore there is no direct information about then international importance available. In the paper the results of the analysis of citation of Slovenian biomedical journals, carried out by the same criteria as used by the CSI are presented. Methods and conclusions. Citation analysis of Slovenian biomedical journals published during the 1986-1995 period was performed using the Biomedicina Slovenica database, the system for the research efficiency evaluation and the SCI database. The journal's impact factor was computed as an average ratio between the number of citations and number of articles in thejournal for the period analised. We believe that the impact of analised journals is in accordance with their mission. Slovenian biomedical journals with general subject coverage have considerably lover citation rate compared to both specialised journals, which also exhibit growth of the citation numbers.
