    Therapy of most cardiovascular ilnesses, especially hypertension, is cronic and in most cases life long. Antihipertensive drugs with prolonged biological half life are preferred in the therapy. ... Prolongation of biological half life can be achieved either by designig new active substances with decreased rate of elimination either by developing dosage forms with prolonged (sustained) release of active substances. In both cases the therapy with such drugs results in lower incidence of side effects due to decreased fluctuations in plasma profiles and increased patient compliance based on decreased dosing frequency. Dosage forms form for some cardiovascular active substances applicable for once daily aplication are discussed in the present article.
