    Empowerment of persons with disabilities is a crucial part of several very influential movements, initiatives and politics in the areas of health and disability in last 20 years. With the elements of ... control, competence and activity it is also closely related to the holistic definition and approach to health promotion as defined by the World Health Organization, where health promotion is possible through a process of people taking more control over their decisions and actions affecting their health. Presented studies bring evidence about the most often defined components of empowerment: competence, self-determination, meaning, impact, positive self identity and group orientation. The lack of measures in this area causes lack of research. This is partially resulting from immaturity of the concept of empowerment itself. There is a certain degree of evidence for using the Vrij Baan questionnaire for measuring initial level and change in empowerment of unemployed people with disabilities in the process of rehabilitation.
