  • Classification, epidemiology and current perspectives on primary immunodeficiency diseases = Klasifikacija, epidemiologija in perspektive primarnih imunskih pomanjkljivosti
    Avčin, Tadej
Primary immunodeficiency diseases (PID) are a rare, genetically heterogeneous group of diseases caused by inherent defects in the immune system. More than 120 distinct genes have been identified, ... whose abnormaliries account for more than 200 different forms of PID. These diseases generally are considered to berelatively uncommon, however, they are sufficiently common that primary carephysicians are likely to see patients with underlying PID in their practice and should refer patients with recurring, unusual or serious infections for testing. The revised classification and epidemiology of the more common PID is presented in this review together with some recent findingsthat can potentially contribute to improved diagnostics and treatment of patients with PID.
