In the paper, a computational tool for detailed production costing analyses for Slovenian electric power system (EPS) is presented. Program employs chronological representation of EPS operation and ... hereby surpasses other planning tools currently in use in Slovenia. The major improvement is related to stimulation of the hydraulically coupled power plants, which play an important role in the Slovenian EPS and have therefore significant influence on modes and costs of operation of thermal power plants, as well. For operation costs, only fuel costs are considered, since they form a completely objective criteria about the influence of particular production unit on the EPS costs and about the benefits provided to the systems under different EPS development scenarios. Presented results demonstrate a rather small differencebetween on-peak energy value with rations as low as one fifth of values reported from other European countries. The main reason for that lies in the fact, that there are no typical base or peaking plants in the system. Furthermore, this reduces efficiency of thermal power plants in operation. That leads to surprisingly high cost benefit value for those production units that provide power reserve for the system. It is shown that these benefits areworth to be economically evaluated and considered when planing the upgrade of exsistent or construction of power plants in Slovenia.
