    An extensive monitoring system of high cell density cultivations (HCDC) with Escherichia coli was developed. It is based on at-line measurements of the main carbon source glucose, the nitrogen source ammonia and the undesired by-product acetate using flow analysis techniques. Besides, MATLAB® was connected to the SCADA system MFCS/win via OPC. Experiments were carried out with two different strains, wild type strain E. coli K12 TG1 (DSMZ 6056) and E. coli JM 105 with green fluorescence protein (GFP).
