    This paper deals with the issue of interculturalism in the field of education in elementary schools. Vojvodina is multicultural environment where the classes are held in mother tongue for the ... minorities as well (in our case in Slovak language) making it necessary for our educational processes to be based on interculturalism. Mother tongue makes a basic element necessary for keeping the national and cultural identity of a community, especially in those environments where students have the option of choosing Slovak as elective language. As opposed to multiculturalism which presents coexistence of different sociocultural groups with specific systems of institutions, traditions, meanings, attitudes, and values that do not necessarily have to interact or collaborate, interculturalism concerns traditional representation that the cultures are basis, special entities that can show mutual and common understanding, influences, exchange of values and models, overcome differences but also ignore, underestimate or fight each other. In schoolbooks of Slovak language with elements of national culture we come across contents with goals to encourage mutual understanding, learning and coexistence of different cultures in Vojvodina. This paper analyzes 4 schoolbooks with the elements of national culture for elementary schools where we follow contents with the aim of encouraging, developing and nurturing interculturalism in Vojvodina. These are schoolbooks of Zoroslav Spevák: Slovenčina moja milá (Slovak language with the elements of national culture from first to third grade of elementary school), Slovenčina moja sila (Slovak language with the elements of national culture from fourth to sixth grade of elementary school) and Slovenčina moja víla (Slovak language with the elements of national culture for seventh and eighth grade of elementary school) as well as grammar book of Michal Týr Z gramatiky nemám strach.
