    In the paper "Mihailo Ristić as a professor of the Gymnasium in Karlovci" the author has reconstructed this period of life and activity of the Serbian and Yugoslavian philosopher Mihailo Ristić ... (182901897) on the basis of archival and other materials. Ristić spent eight school-years in this eminent Serbian Gymnasium of the 19th century (from 2nd June, 1853 til 3rd October 1861). He taught history, geography and philosophy and occasionally German and drawing. He used the official textbooks: Joseph Beck, Robert Zimmerman, Johann Lichtenfels and Mattie were the authors of textbooks for logic psychology and metaphysics and Hermann Meynert, Th. B. Welter, J. Bellinger, Em. Hoffmann, Wilhelm Pitz, J. Chr. Engel and Dimitrije Davidović of those for history and geography. However, ristić devoted more time and attention to the study of philosophy and the writing of philosophical works so that he finally gave up teaching and practised the law. He was also interested in historiography, numismatics and painting. He led an easy life as a pupil and astudent at university, but as a professor he led a solitary life devoted to intelectual work.
