    Živanov, Sava
The 80th anniversary of the Revolution in Russia presents an occasion to resume discussions about this crucial event of the Russian 20th century history which also had manifold influence and ... far-reaching consequences on the development of modern world. On the basis of the new material from historical archives and new insights, some old questions have been reopened, the questions related to the historical events, even to the previous periods in Russia's development. Some of these key questions, connected with reforms and revolutions, are the subject of this paper. Starting from the insights of historical sciences and using the methods of politicological analysis, the author discusses the questions of possible, but realistic alternatives to the outcome achieved at the crucial moments of Russia's recent history. there are three basic questions: 1. Could Russia have achieved successful historical development in its recent history even without modernization according to the European models? 2. Was it possible to realize modernization in an evolutionary way - by reforms, or the Revolution became necessary? 3. Why the Revolution 1917 did not stop at its February bourgeois-democratic phase, but continued into the worker-peasant phase of the revolution, directed towards the socialist transformation?
