  • Semantička prozodija u kolokacijama i kontekstu u srpskom i engleskom jeziku

    The paper deals with semantic prosody of Serbian and English nouns and adjectives of general meaning as a feature which rests on their collocational patterning and contextual use. Semantic prosody is ... a pragmatic feature of lexical usage and it is not a component of denotative or connotative meaning. It is examined in samples of language in use since frequency in lexical co-occurrence or in certain contexts is an indicator of the positiveness or negativeness of semantic prosody of items described. On the basis of distribution of Serbian and English nouns and adjectives of general meaning we shall analyse semantic profiles of the words examined in order to provide a characterization of their semantic prosody. The data indicates that the Serbian noun začetak has a positive prosody as it co-occurs with nouns such as kultura and preporod (začetak kulture/preporoda); likewise, the English noun beginnings has a positive prosody as it co-occurs with noun phrases of positive content (the beginnings of civilized life).
