Epistaxis most commonly occurs in children, adults from 50 to 70 years of age, patients with blood dyscrasias, artherosclerotic heart disease, or hypertension, patients receiving anticoagulant therapy, patients with alcoholism, people with certain allergies, and patients with hereditary telangiectasia (Rendo-Osler-Weber disease).
