Advanced technologies in landfill leachate management [Elektronski vir]Lobnik, Aleksandra ...Correctly chosen technology and membranes are crucial to minimize surface and ground water contamination to meet legislation limits when disposing of leachate water directly into the environment or ... into the sewage system. The research presented focuses on the test application of the most improved product in plate module technology (radial channel disc tube module [RCDTM]) for treatment of landfill leachate from a landfill in Slovenia in order to achieve 95% recovery rates at relatively low overall specific energy consumption. Preliminary results showed that both, nanofiltration (type NF1) and modified reverse osmosis membrane for brackish water (type RO-BW30) have the potential to reduce the exceeded ecological parameters (S2-, NH4-N and adsorbable organic halides - AOX) under maximum allowed concentrations (MAC) for sewage disposal according to the Slovenian legislation. NF1 enables similarly high retention of ecological parameters (from 86.8% for S2- to 99.9% for NH4-N) in comparison to the modified RO-BW30 (R>93%) at 20 bar. During filtration experiments when applying both membranes leachate flux decreases to 8.35 L/m2.h.bar regarding the initial water flux, while the reduction of RO-BW30 modified membrane is 7% higher (88.9%) in comparison to NF1 (82%).Source: Promoting technology and scientific innovation [Elektronski vir] (11 f.)Type of material - conference contributionPublish date - 2010Language - englishCOBISS.SI-ID - 14653206
