    Peršič Ojsteršek, Alenka
I analyzed the level and the dynamics of the disability among employees of theUniversity Medical Center Ljubljana (UMC). They were considered for the first time by the Disability Committee within the ... Institute of Pension and Disability Insurance in the period from 1992 to 1998. The analysis, together with other indicators of negative health, can assist in the assessment of the risk of health hazards and work capacity of the UMC's employees. This can provide the basis for the preparation of preventive measures for protection, preservation and improvement. The majority of data was gathered from the computer database of the Pension and Disability Insurance Institute in Ljubljana, the annual analyses of work of disability committees and from the UMC's computer database. The data was processed using computer software SPSS and MS Excel. In the period from 1992 to 1998 UMC employed annually on average6862 workers (17.7% men and 82.3% women). 441 of them were presented toSlovenian disability :committees (15% men and 85% women). The index of frequency (out of 1000 actively-insured people) of the first assessments for the entire active population of the Republic of Slovenia was 14,36 and for UMC9,29. The frequency of presentations to disability committees was higher for women (IF 9.49) than for men (IF 7,77). The majority of considered insuredpeople had lower education: 47% men and 43,6% women. The majority of presented employees were estimated as the first category disabled (29.7%), followed by the third category disabled (24.9%) and the second category disabled (24.9%). The average IF of assessments of the first and third category disabled among UMC's insured employees was lower than that of the entire active population of the Republic of Slovenia and the average IF of theassessment of the second category disabled was higher (p=0,007).
