Analysis of possibilities for long-lived low and intermediate radwaste management in Slovenia

Long-lived low and intermediate (LLLI) radwaste management in Slovenia is an important radioactive waste management branch that has not received enough attention to in the past. Now the Agency for ...Radwaste Management, being the competent authorty for managing all kinds of radwaste in Slovenia, has initiated an analysis of possibilities for LLLI radwaste management. A register of LLLI radwaste in Slovenia was made which comprises all sources already stored as radwaste and sources which are no longer in use and which will not be returned to the foreign manufacturer upon completed utilization were recorded and the assessment of anticipated quantity of sources with long-lived isotopes contained in the waste management, particulary in the event of disposal, were analysed. Particular attention was paid to the possibility of waste disposal. Approximate quantifications of safe disposal criteria was defined by preliminary performance assesment for disposal in some characteristics geological conditions, the possibility of LLLI radwaste disposal in our country was assessed.
