    The paper presents an updated version of a fault indicator used for detecting an earth fault, short circuit and voltage fault in direct/resistor earthed, isolaled or compensated with e.g. a Petersen ... coil overhead medium voltage distribution networks. The indicator has been designedfor integration into SmartGrid middle voltage distribution networks, therefore it incorporates the characteristics such as remote management, control and automation in combination with disconnectors. First, a mathematical model was developed to help with the construction of the first prototype. Next the software was written that enabled testing and calibration of the prototype on a test site constructed for this pur pose. The results were consistent with the given mathematical model. The design process, principles of operation, new extended functionality, and calibration of the fault indicator are brifly described in the rest of the paper.
