Structure of living macroinitiators and grafted PVC

Controlled two step grafting of MMA on to PVC under UV irradiation took place in THF solution in approximate ratio between grafted copolymer : homopolymer 1:1. In the first step the macroinitiators ...were formed and in the second step the grafting took place. The degree of grafting increased with reaction time. The number of substituted chlorine atoms by xanthate groups was between 3 and 14 per macromolecule. The most reactive are the isotactic triades, the less the sindiotatctic. After grafting the configuration did not change. The lengthof branches was calculated from the ratio of the ▫$-CH_3 signals of the end groups and of the -CH_3 signals of the PMMA branches. The length is between 10 and 20 monomer segments. The overall reaction is an insertion of MMA segments between chain and xanthate end groups.$▫
