  • Macro and micro aspects of crisis
    Savin, Davor
ǂThe ǂauthor analyses the crisis situation for export dependent countries as well export oriented companies stressing that such situation takes place when competitiveness - which mainly arises from ... productivity growth - declines relative to competitors in the overseas markets. Crises tend to emphasize the internal factors causing decline, reinforcing and accelerating the downward trend that - if no appropriate action is taken to change the situation - could result in insolvency and downfall. The main thesis is that there is no fundamental difference between macro (nation, country) and micro (firm, corporation) aspects of crisis on condition that both entities have high export to output ratio. Furthermore, there is no difference among macro and micro turnaround policy and recovery strategy. At the center of both strategies should be put the recovery of competitiveness, namely the increase of productivity.
