  • Time-dependent and thermal properties of polyoxymethylene copolymers with different molecular weights
    Gonzalez-Gutierrez, Joamin ...
Polyoxymethylene copolymer (POM) is considered a high performance engineering polymer with many applications, due to its good chemical resistance and very good mechanical properties. It is known that ... the thermal and time-dependent mechanical properties of polymers are greatly influenced by the average molecular weight (Mw) of polymers. This paper presents the time-dependent mechanical and thermal properties of new POM copolymers with a broad range of average molecular weights. Viscosity was found to follow a power law relation as a function of Mw at selected temperatures. And shear creep compliance was found to decrease with Mw approaching a plateau at larger molecular weights. It was observed that transition temperatures (Tm and Tc) were found to depend on Mw following a non-monotonic function with a maximum at intermediate molecular weights. The trends here observed are similar to the results obtained for other polymers reported in the literature.
