  • Laser shock peening on a precipitation hardenable tool steel [Elektronski vir]
Petan, Luca ; Ocaña, Jose Luis ; Grum, Janez, 1946-
Die-casting dies involve a complex interaction between various forms of load and tribological phenomena, such as corrosion, erosion, soldering, and thermal fatigue. The most critical failure mode in ... die casting is thermal fatigue which can cause the emergence of heat checks and stress cracks already in the low cycle fatigue regime. Due to the demanding working requirements of tool steels, surface damage, leading to repair costs or even a failure of the component, is likely to occur. Studies have shown that the implementation of peening techniques can increase wear and thermal fatigue resistance. In the study presented in this article, the effects of laser shock peening on X2NiCoMo18-9-5 maraging steel were investigated by analysing the surface integrity before and after different sequences of the laser peening and heat treatment stages.
